Job Overview

The Field Service Technician will perform welding and mechanic work on equipment under the supervision of a Leadperson or Supervisor in a shop or field environment. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Primary focus on a safe work environment and employing safe work practices on a consistent basis.
  • Use of considerable judgement to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available, and the making of broad decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.
  • Responsibility to prevent damage due to mistakes or carelessness to equipment or materials.
  • Working in a diverse team environment.
  • Any other duties as appropriate and required.
  • Flexibility with travel based on needs and overall company objectives.
  • Concentrated mental and visual attention in laying out or otherwise performing complex work due to very close limits of high accuracy and quality; or in coordinating a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.
  • Clean tools, clean equipment, paint and grease equipment as needed.
  • Prevent loss which may result from negligent inspection or testing; from spoilage or wastage of raw or in process materials.
  • Ability to safely set up equipment for repairs.
  • Must possess advanced skill level with numerous welding applications and mechanical troubleshooting with diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to field machine with bore welding and bar set-up and cutting.
  • Considerable physical demand, continuous lifting or moving average weight to moderate weight materials and working in difficult work positions.
  • Ability to become:
    • Forklift Task Trained
    • Fire Extinguisher Task Trained
    • LOTO Task Trained
    • Fall Protection Task Trained
    • Crane Task Trained
    • Certified Rigging

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Current MSHA, valid driver license and able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical job requirements.
  • 3 years to 5 years similar job experience is preferred.
  • Use of advanced trade mathematics
  • Ability to interpret and understand complicated drawings, specifications, charts and tables
  • Ability to use all varieties of precision measuring instruments.
  • Consistently promotes Komatsu's safety culture which includes but is not limited to:
    • Understands and complies with all established Cardinal Rules;
    • Working safely, promoting the safety of coworkers;
    • Constantly looking for ways to improve and maintain a safe working environment by completing FLRA's, Near Miss Cards, and Safety Observations.
