Job Overview

The Electric Motor Winder will work to plan and perform a sequence of winding operations under the supervision of a Leadperson or Supervisor in a shop or field environment. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Primary focus on a safe work environment and employing safe work practices on a consistent basis.
  • Responsibility to prevent damages due to mistakes or carelessness to equipment or materials. 
  • Use of considerable judgement to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available, and the making of broad decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.
  • Working in a diverse team environment.
  • Any other duties as appropriate and required.
  • Light physical demand, continuous lifting or moving lightweight materials and working in difficult work positions.
  • Concentrated mental and visual attention in laying out or otherwise performing complex work to very close limits of high accuracy and quality; or in coordinating a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.
  • Ability to rewind motors with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to wind round and shaped wire to form series; interpole, brake and other similar coils.
  • Ability to operate multiple coil winding machines.
  • Install coils with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to create prints and drawings to assist with a standardized process.
  • Ability to tear down various motors and armatures and rewind with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to operate on banding lathe, stripping lathe and cut off saw.
  • Ability to start safely performing more complex testing and diagnosis of electrical apparatus. 
  • Build and repair field frames with little to no supervision.
  • Provide service reports

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Ability to interpret and understand complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables and handbook formulas.
  • Ability to use all varieties of precision measuring instruments. 
  • Equivalent to complete accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft or occupation; or equivalent to a 1 year technical college education, is a plus.
  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years in similar job experience.
