Job Overview

Under the direction of the Mechanical and Structural Engineering Manager, the role of Mechanical Engineer works as part of a multi-disciplinary heavy equipment design engineering team to design and develop new and innovative products to solve problems faced by our customers. This includes utilizing computer-aided software, specifically CREO, to create basic 3D layouts, drawings, and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings. Responsibilities include customer visits, problem definition, concept development, cross-functional reviews, component selection and detailed design, system prototyping and validation, production design release, manufacturing support, and support of field personnel. 

This position will be based in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical and structural systems for underground mobile mining equipment using software tools such as CREO to create 3D layouts, drawings and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings.
  • Simulate systems using software tools such as CREO or Ansys to optimize the performance, reliability, and safety of products.
  • Create and modify mechanical designs using CAD-based tools.
  • Identify and define testing criteria and validation methods based on industry standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input for continuous improvement efforts.
  • Research and apply industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems
  • Selects appropriate components and materials for mechanical designs.
  • Optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Provide continuous support to production team during the assembly phase of capital equipment builds.
  • Provide support to the aftermarket factory team, customer or distributor for commissioning, field troubleshooting needs at customer or distributor sites as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or Diploma Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • 4-8 years of experience in mechanical design, preferable for mobile equipment or related industry
  • Experience with mechanical calculations such as stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid dynamics calculations.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment and procedures
  • Up to 15% of the time to customer sites to support Hard Rock staff in international locations as required.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CREO, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Working knowledge of material selection, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems for underground mining equipment
  • Good understanding of mechanical system & mechanical system integration and the ability to design and implement mechanical system integration solutions
  • Experience in system testing and validation using advanced testing equipment and techniques
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical system issues using diagnostic tools and techniques
  • Proficiency in creating detailed documentation including engineering calculations, FEA Reports, CFD Reports, ECN's, etc.

Additional Information

At Komatsu, base pay is just one part of a comprehensive total compensation package designed to support and reward our employees. 

For this role, the annual base compensation range is approximately €45,000.00 to €80,000.00. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidates' skills, experience, qualifications, and the position location.
