Job Overview

Location: Dependent upon candidate's physical location to one of our facilities (Franklin, PA; Lebanon, KY; Abingdon, VA; Mount Vernon, IL).. 


This position is part of the “Haulage Engineering” team and works alongside team leads for Shuttle Cars, and Flexible Conveyor Trains as well as dedicated electrical and hydraulic team leads.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. Lead or perform in engineering projects to develop, maintain and support components, products and/or services per market demands, as well as for continual process improvements.

2. Perform or plan engineering evaluations including investigations, calculations and tests requiring guidance only in controversial circumstances.

3. Provide conceptual and strategic solutions to solve problems that are associated with engineering projects or evaluations.

4. Take responsibility for one's own learning and development for the mutual benefit of one's self and the organization.

5. Coach engineering people and act as a group leader for those who are supporting components, products and/or services as well as continual improvements in engineering processes.

6. Develop and participate in programs for effective communication of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as engineering best practices.

7. Develop and support improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and/or services.

8. Implement effective Change Management to achieve the desired organizational outcomes by successfully changing individual behaviors as needed.

Predominant Tasks

1. Supervise some Engineering employees in performance of specific projects or functions.

2. Provide innovative changes to existing designs or conceptual thinking to new designs.

3. Meet with suppliers concerning changes to, or new requirements for, their products.

4. Perform or plan engineering evaluations as required and review resulting designs for compliance.

5. Specify the setup of engineering tests that required experienced judgement.

6. Oversee the assembly, testing and application of prototypes. Go to the field to witness prototype performance and recommend corrective action if appropriate. Properly document these activities.

7. Participate in discussions with customers, as directed, about problem areas and new equipment.

8. Initiate quality audits of production machines.

9. Meet with Global or Regional regulatory personnel to address changes to existing or new regulations and their impact upon our customers or KOMATSU MINING designs.

10. Initiate Customer Retrofit Improvement and Safety Program (CRISP) projects when necessary with technical specifications and designs for field retrofits to maintain reliability and/or safety.


1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline, required.

2. 8 years’ experience in engineering design, machine application, mining industry, desired.

3. Proficient in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, desired.

4. Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired.

5. Participation in effective Change Management implementation, desired.

6. Experience in cross-functional leadership assignment(s), required. 7. Certifications or demonstrated project management, required.

8. Professional registration and/or membership in committees and/or technical societies, beneficial.
