Job Overview
The Mechanical Simulation Engineer role is to provide global expertise in the Computer Simulation of Structural and Mechanical assemblies and components of machines used in the underground mining machinery.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Redesign existing products to enhance performance and extend the life of mechanical/structural components
- Perform engineering evaluations including investigations, basic calculations, and tests with well-defined requirements and outcomes
- Provide conceptual and strategic solutions for problems related to engineering projects or evaluations
- Take responsibility for personal learning and development for mutual benefit
- Collaborate with other product engineers on structural design
- Design and evaluate shafts for adequate stiffness, torque capacity, and fatigue strength
- Conduct root-cause failure analysis of mechanical components, shafts, frames, and assemblies using bolted connections and develop appropriate solutions
- Liaise with counterparts in the UK, South Africa, Australia, and China
- Work with domestic and overseas business units on design and reliability issues as required
- Participate in customer and supplier meetings
- Assist Supply Chain and Quality Assurance departments in supplier evaluations as required
- Review and approve deviations
- Write detailed technical reports and create technical presentations
- Document detailed gear case component design data and generate design summaries
Qualifications/Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or MET degree minimum. Master degree (MSME with emphasis in the design of a wide variety of mechanical components and assemblies) preferred.
- 10 years of mechanical design experience with 3-5 years minimum experience using Ansys Finite Element Analysis software including Ansys Workbench, Ansys Design Modeler, Ansys Discovery (for pre-processing of geometry), and Ansys Mechanical. Experience in the analysis of Linear and Non-linear mechanical systems and components, Plasticity, Bolted Connections, Large Deflection analysis, Modal Analysis.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in various computer systems/programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other computer applications.
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
