Job Overview

This role leads cross-functional engineering projects from concept to execution, driving innovation in design, testing, and compliance while engaging with customers and industry stakeholders. It also involves identifying intellectual property, staying ahead of market trends, and representing the organization through thought leadership and collaboration.

Key Job Responsibilities

    1. Lead or perform in engineering projects to develop, maintain and support components, products and/or services per market demands, as well as for continual process improvements.
    2. Perform or plan engineering evaluations including investigations, complex calculations and tests requiring innovative approaches when standard approaches are ineffective.
    3. Provide conceptual and strategic solutions to solve problems that are associated with engineering projects or evaluations.
    4. Take responsibility for one's own learning and development for the mutual benefit of one's self and the organization.
    5. Develop and coach engineering people who are supporting components, products and/or services as well as continual improvements in engineering processes.
    6. Initiate, drive and develop programs for effective communication of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as engineering best practices.
    7. Drive and develop improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and/or services. Strive to achieve a “World Class” engineering organization.
    8. Implement effective Change Management to achieve the desired organizational outcomes by successfully changing individual behaviors as needed.

 

Predominant Tasks

    1. Lead project teams through all phases of major projects.
    2. Plan innovative changes to existing designs or conceptual thinking to new designs.
    3. Oversee engineering evaluations and review resulting designs for compliance.
    4. Plan and assign or set up and perform engineering tests requiring innovative approaches.
    5. Direct the assembly, testing and application of prototypes. Monitor field performance.
    6. Lead discussions with customers related to problem areas and new equipment.
    7. Stay abreast of technology advances, market trends, and competitive products.
    8. Represent Engineering on teams addressing other aspects of the business.
    9. Recognize and document new intellectual property that differentiates JOY products.
    10. Give presentations at industry meetings and submit articles to industry publications.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

    1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline, required.
    2. 10 years’ experience in engineering design, machine application, mining industry, desired.
    3. Proficient in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, desired.
    4. Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired.
    5. Participation in effective Change Management implementation, highly desired.
    6. Experience in international assignment(s), required.
    7. Certifications or demonstrated project management, required.
    8. Professional registration and/or membership in committees and/or technical societies, beneficial.
