Job Purpose

As a Field Technician, you will install and commission advanced mining technology hardware on heavy equipment at mine sites across North America. This is a hands-on role ideal for technicians with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude who enjoy working in industrial environments and learning new technologies. You’ll work alongside experienced team members to ensure systems are installed safely, configured correctly, and operating reliably. Travel is primarily regional, with most assignments allowing you to return home regularly. 

Key Responsibilities

Each day will present you with new challenges and opportunities to test and grow your skills.  As a Field Technician with Modular, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Install and mount hardware components (sensors, modules, wiring harnesses, onboard devices) on heavy mobile equipment and site infrastructure.

  • Assist with system wiring, power connections (12V/24V DC), and equipment integration.

  • Perform basic configuration, calibration, and functional testing of installed systems.

  • Support troubleshooting of hardware and connectivity issues under guidance of senior technicians.

  • Conduct site audits and installation quality checks to ensure compliance with company standards.

  • Maintain accurate service documentation and update installation records.

  • Track tools, inventory, and replacement components.

  • Follow all site-specific safety procedures and actively contribute to a strong safety culture.

Travel Requirements

  • Primarily regional travel within North America.

  • Most assignments allow return home regularly.

  • Occasional multi-day travel may be required.

  • Estimated travel requirement: approximately 40–50%.

Successful candidates will have the resilience and organizational skills to manage travel obligations effectively while maintaining high-quality performance and ensuring personal health and safety in diverse settings.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following:

    • Heavy equipment maintenance

    • Automotive electrical systems

    • Industrial equipment installation

    • Military electronics

    • Industrial manufacturing assembly

  • Basic knowledge of:

    • Electrical wiring and connectors

    • Power distribution (DC systems preferred)

    • Mechanical mounting and fabrication

  • Ability to read technical diagrams and follow installation procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to access remote work sites.

  • Robust physical capability, including safe operation at heights up to 60 feet, ability to lift loads up to 100 pounds, and comfort with kneeling, squatting, and ladder climbing in varied environments.

  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and a meticulous attention to detail in diagnosing and resolving hardware challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system performance.

These requisite skills ensure the Field Technician can manage the technical, physical, and collaborative demands essential to successful job performance within Modular Mining Systems' technologically advanced and globally diverse setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Comprehensive experience with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Komatsu' Mining Technology Solutions, enhancing your ability to provide expert on-site support

• Exposure to telematics, fleet management systems, GPS, or industrial sensors.

• Familiarity with IPC 620/610 or similar quality standards.

• Experience working in mining, construction, or other heavy industrial environments.

• Technical diploma or trade certification in electronics, electrical, or industrial systems.
