Job Overview

Join Komatsu West as a dedicated Lube Technician within the Komatsu Equipment Company division, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our machinery through timely and effective repair of machine components in our well-equipped shop environment.

As a Lube Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards in repair efficiency, including an annual repair efficiency target of 85% and keeping rework hours under 3% of billed hours. You will meet or exceed standard repair times as established by Komatsu Equipment Company job codes and contribute to organizational success by supporting balanced scorecard goals.

Your technical expertise will be evaluated through consistent performance on the Technician Competency Matrix, emphasizing both technical knowledge and soft skills, complemented by a strict adherence to safety practices.

In this role, you will be integral to the maintenance process, providing expert diagnostics, repair, and adjustments on a variety of heavy equipment components, supporting both the operational excellence and customer satisfaction that Komatsu West is known for.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Efficiently complete assigned repair and maintenance tasks within designated flat rate times, ensuring quality workmanship to minimize rework.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and operational procedures established by Komatsu Equipment Company and customer sites, fostering a secure working environment.
  • Accurately complete and submit all necessary documentation, including work orders, parts orders, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and utilize company databases such as DBS, SIMS, SIS Web, and STW systems to record and manage job progress.
  • Strictly follow contamination control and hazardous materials regulations to ensure environmental and personal safety.
  • Skillfully remove, install, disassemble, assemble, test, and adjust mechanical components with minimal supervision, demonstrating technical proficiency.
  • Provide clear, accurate quotes and pricing estimates to customers, supporting transparent communication and customer trust.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues precisely, offering informed recommendations for repair and maintenance actions.
  • Verify the operational effectiveness of all repairs and adjustments through thorough testing procedures.
  • Apply comprehensive failure analysis techniques and standardized procedures to accurately assess and resolve equipment faults.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED is required to ensure fundamental educational background.
  • An Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or a related field is preferred, reflecting advanced technical knowledge.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in equipment repair and maintenance, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to various work schedules, including shift rotations, to meet operational demands.

Additional Information

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Certification to operate forklift and/or manlift equipment is required, ensuring safe handling of materials.
  • Completion of Department of Transportation (DOT) physical may be required to verify fitness for duties.
  • Mandatory Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification to comply with safety standards.
  • Respirator certification may be necessary, depending on specific job assignments.

Tooling Requirements

Candidates must possess a basic set of mechanic's tools that meet or exceed the minimum standards outlined by Komatsu Equipment Company technician tool list, enabling effective and efficient task execution.

Strict adherence to all company policies and procedures is expected to uphold operational integrity and compliance.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and potential contact with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequent exposure to varying conditions including humidity, elevated work areas, fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather elements.
  • Occasional encounters with extreme heat, electrical hazards, and workplace vibrations.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of industrial shop environments.
