Job Overview
As a Laborer at Komatsu West within the Komatsu Equipment Company division, you will be an essential part of a dynamic team dedicated to supporting skilled Welders, Mechanics, Leads, and Supervisors both in shop settings and field service environments. Key Job Responsibilities
- Consistently maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety protocols and promoting safe work practices among colleagues.
- Provide active assistance to certified Welders and Mechanics by preparing materials, tools, and work areas for welding, cutting, and mechanical repair tasks.
- Support complex repair work by accurately laying out components, helping to ensure high-quality, precise repairs are completed efficiently.
- Observe and learn to assess equipment needs, contributing to developing repair plans and procedures under supervision.
- Help troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on welding machines, wire feeders, and related tooling, enhancing uptime and productivity of equipment.
- Engage collaboratively within a diverse team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting team goals to meet department and organizational objectives.
- Maintain a productive work pace, effectively managing time to maximize billable hours and minimize material waste or spoilage.
- Participate fully in task-specific training sessions to continually expand technical skills and compliance knowledge.
- Undertake general cleaning and housekeeping tasks to uphold a tidy, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Be prepared to perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications/Requirements
Technical and Task-Specific Qualifications:
- Completion of Forklift, Sand Blast Booth, Fire Extinguisher, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protection, and Hexchromium task training certifications demonstrates readiness to safely handle specialized equipment and environments.
Physical Capabilities:
- Ability to meet moderate physical demands, including lifting and moving materials of light to moderate weight, often requiring sustained effort and adaptability to demanding positions.
- Proficiency in vertical lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling motions essential to daily tasks.
- Comfort with repetitive activities such as coupling and the use of upper extremities to perform mechanical tasks.
- Capability to climb steps and ladders safely and maintain balance during diverse work activities.
- Able to sustain various postures including repetitive, static, bending, kneeling, and overhead reach required in the work environment.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Requirements:
- Current MSHA certification and a valid driver’s license required to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safe transportation to work sites.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical to meet the rigorous demands of the role.
- Strong commitment to Komatsu West’s Safety First philosophy, embracing and modeling safe behaviors such as adherence to all Cardinal Rules, promoting coworker safety, and participating actively in safety initiatives including FLRA’s, Near Miss reporting, and Safety Observations.
Additional Information
This position requires flexibility in work scheduling, including the ability to work day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Occasional day and overnight travel may be necessary to support field service operations or training opportunities. This schedule adaptability ensures alignment with operational priorities and customer needs while fostering a collaborative and responsive work environment.
