We are looking to add a Project Superintendent to our National Service Group. 

 

Reports to:   Manager, NSG, Used Equipment & Rental Fleet

Shift:   Multiple shifts

Location:  home office located in Edmonton, AB, but work is project-based across Canada

  • Candidates from Western Canada preferred (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan)

Trade:   Millwright; HET; Welding, Electrical

 

Our National Service Group (NSG) is a project-based team that travels across Canada completing large equipment assemblies, overhauls/outages, and relocations for a variety of mining equipment for our clients.

 

Projects with the NSG have varying durations with some lasting 3 - 4 months. Depending on the needs of the customer, the NSG may be required to be away from home for 3 - 4 weeks at a time. When not assigned to major projects, the individual will be required to support other regions across Canada as needed in a supervisory or trade capacity, and to complete assigned duties of the NSG team as directed.

 

The successful candidate of this role will be comfortable with the sporadic nature of this business and be able to adapt to changing environments and work processes.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Individual will be a self-starter with strong leadership qualities to effectively direct the workforce on all projects
  • The individual will be required to lead projects independently or as part of a team in delivering positive results
  • Lead and support the assembly, commissioning, maintenance, overhaul, and relocation of Komatsu and non-OEM surface and underground mining equipment on customer sites across Canada
  • Supervise and effectively lead a diverse trade team ranging from two to twenty individuals on all project sites, ensuring adherence to company process and policy, while driving Safety, Law, Quality, Delivery, and Cost to complete each project successfully
  • Professionally manage the performance of onsite labor, project site organization and cleanliness, and required administrative paperwork and processes in this role
  • Organize resources, personnel, and materials to complete projects on schedule and within budget.  This requires a clear understanding of the nature of the projects and the steps required to achieve project outcomes that satisfy customers and meet overall business objectives
  • On-site project management requires the ability to identify talent and to quickly develop an efficient and effective team for the project duration. This would include mentoring, coaching, and onsite training of individuals that do not have the required skill set to complete the assigned tasks on a project

Other Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Has a clear understanding of project parameters (budgets, schedules, requirements, etc…) and will complete the required paperwork/documentation during and after a project
  • The candidate will implement and ensure that they maintain a safe project site, and has their direct reports accurately complete all required safety documents (FLRA’s, JSO’s, Near Miss/Substandard Conditions, site inspections, etc…)
  • Effectively provide constructive and developmental feedback in a professional manner to peers and direct reports on all projects. Complete required reviews of direct reports throughout all projects and as requested
  • Has the ability to set and maintain company standards, maintain morale, and motivate crews
  • Has the ability to identify and resolve problems/issues at a high level
  • Monitor on-site Performance Results as it relates to Safety, Quality, Schedules, Budget, Customer Relationship Building, and Customer Satisfaction.
  • Work closely with the project management team to analyze applicable reports, drawings, specifications, and related project documentation to achieve superior results
  • Can establish and maintain a good working relationship with our internal and external customers at all levels within the organization
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 4 - 8 years of Journeyman Trade experience in a surface mining environment i.e. Millwright, HET, Welding, Electrical
  • Experience leading a team/crew of skilled personnel on short and/or long-term projects
  • Excellent working knowledge of surface mining equipment.
  • Superior communication skills including strong written and verbal skills, presentation skills, taking the lead on conversations ensuring clarity and understanding, delivering clear and concise directions, and minimizing gaps of knowledge and/or information at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple urgent requests and rapidly changing priorities.
  • A strategic, creative thinker with well-developed analytical, problem solving and planning skills to provide advice and recommend change.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to work within the framework of multiple deadlines.
  • Motivational leader who is able to coach, mentor and develop team/crew personnel.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of products including MS-Project, MS-Excel, MS-Word.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations--Health and Safety focus.
