Job Overview

As a Cost Analyst at Komatsu, you will play a pivotal role in the financial and operational success of our manufacturing activities based in Solon, Ohio. This position is essential in managing the costing for U.S. individual parts, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of cost data that directly impacts inventory valuation and financial reporting. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, and Finance to foster efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement in cost management processes.

Dedicated to maintaining precise material master data, you will oversee SAP costing views and contribute to equipment cost estimation, vital for sales support and internal budget control. Your role is deeply integrated with analyzing cost variances, tracking asset capitalization, and preparing detailed reconciliations to uphold rigorous financial discipline. Key Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for daily costing of U.S. individual parts, ensuring new parts are costed accurately and timely to support material movements and proper inventory valuation.
  • Maintain and update SAP Material Master Costing views for U.S. parts, including key fields that drive freight, burden rates, surcharges, and primary cost plant, while ensuring a high level of data integrity.
  • Prepare original equipment (OE) cost estimates for miners, shearers, shuttle cars, and other equipment at the request of the Sales Department for supervisory review.
  • Support cost supervision during U.S. mock and annual recost activities by reviewing, analyzing, and correcting data integrity issues within SAP Costing views.
  • Review and analyze Solon production order variances on a monthly basis to identify root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Partner with the Quality Team to track scrap and rework from work‑in‑process and finished goods, ensuring accurate financial recording.
  • Analyze general ledger and balance sheet accounts and prepare reconciliations to supporting sub‑ledgers for review by Finance supervision.
  • Track Construction in Progress (CIP) projects and capitalize assets in SAP in accordance with policy, while maintaining the fixed asset register.
  • Perform special financial analyses and ad hoc projects to support management decision‑making, strategic initiatives, and continuous accounting and operational process improvements.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of two years' professional accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial setting, showcasing applied cost accounting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools to support financial reporting and process improvements.
  • Prior experience working with SAP ERP systems is strongly preferred, with the ability to navigate and manage Material Master Costing views and related modules.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities, capable of spotting inconsistencies and implementing corrective actions to maintain data integrity.
  • Effective communication skills that facilitate collaboration across multiple departments and support clear reporting to management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.

Additional Information
