Job Overview

The Contract Development Manager supports the Komatsu scope of the cross-functional negotiation and contract development for strategic or global customer contracts (OE, aftermarket and service).  Builds and maintains exceptional internal and external relationships supporting an expected yearly revenue of $500 million - $1 billion for each global customer contract. The position applies contract and order management principles to achieve successful long-term relationships and transactions between Komatsu and the global or strategic customer.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Support Komatsu Mining Technologies (KMT) through a consistent contract management process for strategic and global mining customers, establishing commitment and execution in compliance with the contract and requirements. This includes the beginning of the process from the corporate level request for quote, through legal and commercial negotiation, and ultimately to contract signature.
  • Build on existing relationships and establish new internal relationships to enhance the understanding and cooperation with KMT stakeholders while balancing legal and commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Work across many areas of the business to build and maintain exceptional relationships supporting an expected $500 million - $1 billion in contractual revenue.  
  • Global and strategic account contracts include original equipment, parts and service sales for the mining business from KMT, KGM and KLTD, as well as Komatsu Affiliates/Distributors.
  • Support and understand the contract structure and the legal/commercial relationship within strategic and global contracts that include new equipment sales, parts, price management over time, training, related services, technical services, performance criteria or guarantees, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Acountable to review details and interrelationship of contractual terms to make recommendations to balance risk and reward for Komatsu.  This includes an understanding of the risk profiles associated with commercial and legal terms and conditions.
  • Review the contracts in detail to identify areas that could include conflicts between clauses, as well as confirmation that the contract language clearly states the intended meaning or agreed positions.
  • Internal facilitation and agreement of the related approval and review processes from quote request to order signing.
  • Develop proposals with supporting detail calculations such as PMOT scheme, market share, loyalty discounts and others.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Degree or certifications in related fields, including law, highly desired.
  • 5-10 years of experience in contract management, negotiation and development required
  • Occasional travel to support training or contract negotiations required
  • Prior work experience in heavy industry sales and distribution, contracts, construction, maintenance or technical on site and shop service required
  • Ability to advise and persuade management, executive team, internal and external customers/interfaces regarding risks and mitigation.
  • Must understand the legal and business risk of the contractual or proposal language and implications or ability of Komatsu to comply with such conditions requested by customers.
  • Experience and knowledge of international business principles and contract terms preferred
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Applications

 

Hiring Range 

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a salary range of $105,600.00 - $132,000.00 - $158,400.00. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
