Job Overview

Join Komatsu America Corp. (KAC) as a Manager of Internal Audit, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with our policies and procedures. You will also ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced self-starter, well-versed in a wide spectrum of compliance best practices, including both Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley (J-SOX). This position is integral to our operations and reports directly to the Director, Internal Audit for Komatsu America Corporation. As part of our dynamic team, you’ll have the opportunity to influence compliance strategies and drive positive change across our North American entities.

Key Job Responsibilities

•    Establish an in-house Internal Audit team to build, manage and support our JSOX audit program for our North American entities.
•    Plan, manage, and execute the annual JSOX audit plan to deliver the plan on time and within budget. Review audit work programs, plan the design of audit tests and evaluate documented test results.
•    Lead, coach and mentor the JSOX Internal Audit team (consisting of audit staff and seniors) to ensure successful individual performance, development and overall attainment of departmental goals and objectives. Ensure the JSOX Internal Audit team understands financial reporting risks, J-SOX, GAAP and audit fundamentals.
•    Establish and maintain relationships at the senior management level and facilitate conversations to gain buy-in and commitment to action plans.
•    Facilitate the evaluation of key business processes, risks, and controls, including collaboration with global audit and compliance stakeholders to align internal control testing results and risk management practices across business units.
•    Review audit observations, recommendations, and corrective action to ensure alignment with an executive audience. Elevate or escalate observations as appropriate and on a timely basis.
•    Maintain and manage communication with the external audit team, including alignment of scope, timing and observations.
•    Coordinate and manage communication and reporting with the Internal Audit team from our Japanese parent, Komatsu Limited.
•    Research GAAP/IFRS/J-SOX regarding appropriate financial reporting and governance application.
•    Assist in the creation and management of time and expense budgets to ensure audits are performed as planned and compliant with sound audit practices.
•    Apply observation, critical thought, audit best practices, data analytics, and audit software such as ACL, Microsoft Excel, and emerging AI technologies to analyze and evaluate information, enhance audit insights, and draw informed conclusions.
•    Assist with recruiting initiatives to help maintain our In-house Internal Audit J-SOX team.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Information Technology.  
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a big 4 audit firm and/or publicly held global company with some of the time being at a manager level
  • Strong critical thinking and intuitive problem solving approach.  Constructive professional skepticism and inquisitiveness.  Continuous improvement mindset.  
  • Facilitation skills and project management experience
  • Strong knowledge of audit and financial management controls, practices and approaches.
  • Ability to lead, develop and mentor others
  • Ability to operate fluidly between strategic and tactical responsibilities.
  • Ability to establish, build and maintain relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate verbal and in writing
  • Effective change management skills
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Competent with software applications such as SAP, Microsoft Office and Audit Command Language (ACL).

Hiring Range 

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $120,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
