Job Overview

As Marketing Manager at Komatsu, your primary focus is to drive measurable growth in customer engagement and revenue through strategic content marketing, assiduous brand stewardship and consistent development of stakeholder relationships. 

You are a proven leader, exceptional at identifying marketing and communications opportunities that meet both customer and business needs. You have experience developing go-to-market strategies, managing projects, programs and campaigns from intake through creative concepting and launch.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead marketing communications strategies for Komatsu industries, connecting our customers’ needs to the value provided by our products, services and solutions. This role requires engagement across various departments and subsidiaries, including but not limited to the following Komatsu business divisions and products: 
    • Construction equipment, services, parts and technology
    • Forestry
    • Industrial (IMO)
  • Through marketing, communications, and branding initiatives, drive construction and forestry solutions to market, collaborating with multiple Komatsu cross-functional teams to understand their capabilities, products and services. 
  • Facilitate collaborative workshops with stakeholders to define strategic foundations and key messages for marketing projects, tradeshows, and campaigns. Identify personas for target audience segments and map the customer journey to understand customer behaviors, needs and drivers and various stages in the buying process. 
  • Strategize and collaborate with MarComm peers to feed earned, owned and paid content channels, including the new komatsu.com website to reach and engage with customers in a personalized way. 
  • Build marketing strategies and plans, timelines and status reports to proactively track deliverables. Ensure efficiency and timely execution of work, removing bottlenecks through effective planning and prioritization, organization and collaboration. Keep stakeholders abreast of work in progress. Outline creative requirements via creative briefs to inform concepting and content development activities. Schedule meetings with team members as needed; recap and circulate action items and next steps promptly. Leverage iMeet (or an alternative project management tool) to track and manage due dates for creative deliverables; follow up consistently to keep work moving forward. 
  • Proofread and coordinate rounds of revisions and approvals for content and creative work. Manage and organize feedback and share edits with applicable team members. Ensure files are fully vetted by content team and legal department before translating and posting to channels or uploading to the DAM for wider distribution. 
  • Proactively identify process gaps or opportunities for improvement and suggest solutions; partnering with marketing operations on problem resolution, risk mitigation and workflow optimization.  
  • Develop and maintain sales enablement tools and training materials for Komatsu dealers and distributors, ensuring branded literature, photos, videos and other creative media are aligned with One Komatsu strategy. 
  • Lead meetings and strategic workshops to understand goals and confirm KPIs, value propositions and USPs (unique selling propositions), target audience personas (jobs, needs, pains, and gains), tactics and channels for distribution. Partner with other team members to establish measurement plans to review performance and optimize campaigns over time. 
  • Proactively schedule recurring check-ins and join business meetings with product and sales teams whenever possible; make yourself available to support their business strategies to drive organizational goals from a marketing perspective.
  • Develop necessary documentation (i.e. marketing strategies, go-to-market plans, creative briefs, presentations, marketing plans, etc.) to communicate marketing goals, challenges, plans, tactics and deliverables. 
  • Ensure content and creative teams have the input required to develop material that reaches and resonates with the intended audiences – as marketing manager, you are responsible for facilitating the execution, bringing the strategy to life in our channels.  


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, Media Communications, business, or a related field.    
  • 5+ years applicable experience focused on marketing, communications, PR, project management, account management, or sales. 
  • Exceptional writing ability, especially a propensity to translate technical content and product info into useful materials for non-technical audiences 
  • Displays knowledge in relation to the product or service being marketed to the public (or demonstrates capabilities of learning quickly).
  • Ability to take complex ideas and translate them into communications that can be easily understood by audiences at all levels.
  • Ability to manage people and motivate a team to achieve goals.
  • Understands customer engagement strategy development and how consumers respond to various forms of media and engagements.  
  • Possesses strong communication, presentation, relationship building, and negotiation skills.  Experience working with personnel in leadership roles (internal and external to the organization). 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, short deadline environment and adapt to change; Can meet demands and timelines without sacrificing quality; works well under stress.
  • Must have the ability to effectively influence, mentor, and educate both internal and external stakeholders in a variety of cultures

Additional Information

  • This role will need to collaborate extensively with a wide variety of Komatsu stakeholders (OEMs, regional teams and distributors) – to coordinate, develop and deliver marketing solutions to the customer.  
  • Additionally, this role will need to effectively interface with both Komatsu and Customer leadership and executives.
  • This position will have a balance of approx. 80% of the time in the office (computer work, meetings, emailing, and phone calls) and as much as 20% of the time traveling (face-to-face meetings with subject matter experts, VOC trips at customer sites, vendor and supplier meetings, industry conferences, trade shows and events, etc.). Note that due to COVID-19, travel may be limited to ensure safety of employees. 
  • Exposure to manufacturing, service locations, and some customer mine sites.
  • Percentage of Travel: 20% (varies)
    • Reasons for Travel: Content development, relationship building, participation in strategic initiatives, meetings with subject matter experts, trade shows and events, industry conferences and trainings.
    • Most common destinations: Domestic and international locations.
