The 2026 Chicago Headquarters internship program will focus on Construction Equipment Products and Solutions. Our products and solutions help construct new cities, plan urban growth, and create a sustainable world.
We're working on exciting technologies like self-driving machines, electric equipment, and remote- control systems to make construction more efficient and environmentally friendly. Also, through our continuing pursuit of reduction of greenhouse gases and waste generated by manufacturing sites and the lessening of the burden on the environment, Komatsu innovation will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Intern, Digital Solutions will have the opportunity to advance Komatsu’s customer and distributor-facing digital solutions and tools. The intern will work on the team that is responsible for Komatsu’s e-commerce, telematics, and service and support digital solutions, with an opportunity to work with the latest technologies to deliver data, insights, and value-added applications to our customers and distributors. This role will have an opportunity to work with a variety of departments and functions, including IT, products, service, and solutions, as well as our distributors in North America.
The intern should be able to work on a 10 weeklong project that revolves on telematic offerings. Individual should be able to do market research and competitor research. There will be opportunities through the internship to present progress and findings to the team. Along with projects, the intern should be able to assist with daily tasks such as tickets and customer/distributor calls.
- Learn about the Komatsu business. Understand how we partner with our distributors and how we service our customers. Learn and engage with our systems, solutions, and industry applications. Learn about our proprietary technology and what we are doing to continue to be an innovative and industry leading organization.
- Collaborate with both internal and external partners such as Marketing Communication, Service and other Komatsu departments and subsidiaries and our parent company located in Japan, Komatsu Limited.
- Support the Digital Solutions team with project work that enhances the functionality and experience of our e-commerce, telematics, and service and support digital applications. Develop accurate reports, data, and metrics. Understand the extent to which our systems are being used and identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.
- Intern will be responsible for completing Digital Solutions tasks, assignments, and projects according to deadlines.
- Interns will be responsible for completing an Internship Project. Interns will own the project from beginning to end and present it to Komatsu C-suite Executives and leaders at the end of the internship.
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Must be at least in Junior standing at an accredited college/university. Preferable majors include Marketing, Communication, or Business Management. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0+ and be able to apply their academic background to real business world experiences.
- Experience: Prior experience with work study programs, school, or volunteer leadership roles, participated on teams or in clubs, professional organizations, etc. Preferred.
- Soft Skills: Must have Excellent written and verbal communications. Ability to multi-task, manage deadlines and easily adapt to new challenges and business working environment. Strong motivation to make contributions to Komatsu and strong motivation to drive results.
- PC Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically with Excel (Pivot Tables), Power Point (slide presentations) and other summary and analysis tools. Must demonstrate good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Travel: Some travel may be required. There may be opportunities to visit Dealer to explain offerings and get a better feel for their needs in the digital solutions space.
- Preferred Skills: Data Retrieval and Data Analytics Skills; Ability to complete competitor research and market research.
- Other Preferred Skills:
- People Skills – Being able to communicate to Distributors/Customers Initiative – Being able to take initiative.
- Creative – Finding/ Coming up with a solution that can be implemented to a certain extent.
