Job Overview
The Director, Corporate Accounting is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting across the organization under applicable accounting standards, provides guidance cross-functionally and leadership to the Corporate Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in upholding compliance with regulatory frameworks while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and in managing a team with diverse experience levels. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical accounting research and problem-solving skills, and ability to put vision into action in support of the company’s corporate goals.
Key Job Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Audit Coordination:
- Oversee the comprehensive monthly close processes within the Corporate Controllership scope, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Maintain rigorous documentation standards, ensuring compliance with J-SOX and other regulatory requirements by regularly updating internal controls and conducting internal audits.
- Collaborate closely with Internal Audit teams and business units to support and enhance global control frameworks, particularly in the context of the S/4HANA system implementation.
- Lead review and preparation of consolidated financial statements in adherence to company policies and applicable accounting standards, ensuring completeness and accuracy of disclosures and detailed variance analyses.
Project Participation and Policy Development:
- Play an integral role in the transition from US GAAP to IFRS, spearheading compliance efforts and guiding the organization through regulatory complexities.
- Drive the drafting, refinement, and dissemination of key accounting policies, organizing training sessions to ensure robust understanding and application across departments.
- Champion change management initiatives to facilitate smooth adoption of new accounting systems and standards, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
- Develop and deliver educational programs and knowledge-sharing activities to strengthen technical accounting expertise within the team and broader organization.
Standardization and Continuous Improvement:
- Lead efforts to standardize and harmonize close processes across Komatsu America and subsidiaries, developing performance scorecards and standard operating procedures supported by effective training programs.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects, such as enhanced month-end close monitoring systems and reporting mechanisms to track reconciliation integrity and boost reporting precision.
- Enhance collaboration mechanisms with cross-functional teams to support accurate and reliable disclosure schedules, improving overall reporting quality.
Accounting and Team Management:
- Manage complex technical accounting topics including mergers & acquisitions, legal contingencies, employee benefits, derivatives, debt instruments, revenue recognition, and asset impairments.
- Lead technical accounting dialogues with both internal leadership and the parent company, maintaining productive relationships with auditors and addressing inquiries with professional insight.
- Oversee all aspects of incentive plan calculations affecting corporate headcount, ensuring accuracy in forecasting and reporting.
- Foster strong partnerships with tax, legal, finance, accounting, and HR to proactively identify process enhancements and optimize business workflows.
- Cultivate a high-performing Corporate Accounting team by setting clear objectives, delivering targeted feedback, and implementing coaching and mentoring programs tailored to varying experience levels.
- Engage the team in ongoing process evaluations and improvements, standardizing procedures to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Education and Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification required.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with a strong foundation in US GAAP and/or IFRS.
• Experienced leader and Effective Communicator: Proven track record to lead, guide, motivate and mentor team members with varying degree of experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise messaging tailored to various stakeholders and hold discussions with cross-functional teams.
• Technical Expertise: Proficient knowledge of financial systems (e.g., ERP systems [SAP], data analytics tools) and advanced Excel skills.
• Agile and Detail-Oriented: Ability to multi-task among competing priorities and participate in large-scale accounting projects; navigates challenges and ambiguities effectively. Ability to memorize understanding in process and accounting positions, conduct thorough self-review of workpaper drafts in ensuring completeness and accuracy in conclusions reached.
Additional Information
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $176,400. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
