Job Overview

Develop supplier sources for production machine's parts and components in accordance with QCD principles.  Develop and control purchase cost of production parts.  Work with marketing and design to implement cost saving activities concurrent with new model development/implementation.


Key Job Responsibilities

Control production parts cost.

  • Monitor and plan cost reduction activities.
  • Develop business plan SVC and CVC costs using plan data and Japan T/P data.

Manage Supplier Sourcing and Supplier Development.

  • Review supplier performance (QCD) and adjust supplier sourcing as needed
  • Monitor supplier quality and provide assistance to improve.

Manage new model or engineering change parts sourcing and cost establishment.

  • Work with Design Engineering to decide order level of purchase parts.
  • Decide Engineering Change Introduction Timing to minimize obsolete components
  • Develop cost of parts and work with cost control department to establish beginning SVC and CVC costs.
  • Ensure trial parts are ordered per CMO TPIN procedures

Work concurrently with design and marketing for model change to facilitate cost savings

  • Work with Design/Marketing to determine cost savings through required offerings (desired versus required items for standard vs option)
  • Work with design regarding recommended cost savings via design specific to North America;  other domestic and overseas plants to incorporate other ideas for cost savings on new and current models

Manage procurement engineers and procurement department

  • Create and implement KPI’s
  • Order materials and services as per negotiated and appropriately approved. Review quotations.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable new goods or services with users, vendors and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative action.




  • BS degree in Business or Engineering and at least 5 years of procurement experience.
  • Experience with MRP and inventory control.
  • MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS Power Point
  • SAP experience including MRP, Purchasing, Engineering Control, BOM, Quality Control, and Warehouse.
  • Travel (including international travel) as needed to suppliers, KAC HQ or other Komatsu factories.
  • Cost accounting knowledge and material cost knowledge.
