Job Overview

The incumbent has responsibility for all new equipment sales and service within the assigned territory.  A comprehensive knowledge of all types of Joy mine equipment is essential.  The Sales Engineer will also understand mine conditions and problems at each mine location by visiting the site (including underground) as necessary.   The incumbent will recommend equipment suitable to each customer's need.

Primary challenges include measuring machine performance, handling complaints and arranging service calls.  The position must be able to provide technical advice on maintenance, application and other related items.  The Sales Engineer is available on a 24-hour basis.

Primary contacts include Customers, various Site Managers, Engineering and other Field Sales personnel.

  • Manage territory sales team in an effective and productive manner.
  • Initiate new and repeat customer contact.
  • Assess customer requirements and assist customers with specific problems.
  • Participate in price negotiations and assist in preparation of quotes and sales orders.
  • Supervise and assign work to Field Service Representatives and/or Life Cycle Management Representatives.
  • Handle complaints on a timely basis and maintain good customer relations.
  • Promote the sale of new parts and rebuild services.
  • Prepare a number of reports both on a periodic and special assignment basis.
  • Plan and implement monthly and quarterly reviews with the sales team for effective communication flow.
  • Maintain, take corrective actions and monitor the timely communication of needs for customers, Franklin Engineers, Centers of Excellence, and Warehouses to reach operation results and achieve objectives.
  • Monitor, change and implement objectives for specific territory that are in conjunction with overall regional and corporate objectives.

Qualifications/Requirements

Requires an Associates Degree in a related field or 3-5 years experience in practical underground mining installation. Extensive knowledge of Joy equipment and rebuild process is required.  Must be computer literate and have good verbal and written communication skills.
