Job Overview


The Shop Technician is responsible for maintaining and preparing heavy equipment for various purposes, including customer demonstrations, training courses, and facility events. This role involves diagnosing and troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems, performing standard tests, and repairing or replacing key components of heavy machinery. The technician works closely with internal business partners and assists in scheduling deliveries, loading, and unloading equipment and parts. Additionally, the technician is responsible for promoting a safe working culture in the shop and keeping the shop clean and organized.

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the inbound equipment receipt process and complete machine PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) efficiently
  •  Prepare equipment for movement to off-site locations, ensuring all safety measures are followed
  •  Get the machine fleet ready for customer demonstrations, training courses, and events in a timely manner
  •  Collaborate with internal business partners and freight companies to schedule deliveries and coordinate logistics effectively
  •  Maintain the shop area and equipment, keeping them clean, organized, and in optimal working condition
  •  Promote a safe working culture in the shop by adhering to safety protocols and procedures Utilize test instruments to diagnose, adjust, and calibrate machinery accurately
  •  Perform teardowns, inspections, repairs/rebuilds, or replacements of key components according to technical specifications
  •  Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as flow benches and dynamometers proficiently
  •  Assist with customer demonstrations and serve as a backup when required to ensure seamless operations

Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma required with a minimum of seven years of relevant work experience on heavy equipment (construction, mining, or other mobile equipment) OR Two-Year Technical College, Industry Degree, or Advanced Vocational Training/Certification with a minimum of three to five years of relevant work experience on heavy equipment
  • Skilled technical position requiring experience and training/certification in Diesel Engines (Komatsu, Cummins, etc.), hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting Knowledge of GPS systems (TopCon, etc.) is advantageous
  •  Mechanical aptitude and proficiency in using a wide variety of shop tools such as machining tools, welders, hose-making equipment, and measurement tools
  •  In-depth knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair machine hydraulics, electrical/wiring, cooling, and powertrain systems.
  • Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Ability to drive Service/Mechanic’s Truck, Fuel Truck, Water Truck, and Forklift
  •  Product knowledge of dozers, hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders systems, and applications with the ability to operate construction equipment safely is a plus
  •  Valid Driver’s license required (CDL license preferred)
  • Must be a team player, possess excellent verbal communication skills, and develop effective relationships internally and externally
