Job Overview
The purpose of a heavy equipment Operator Instructor/Developer is to design and deliver comprehensive training programs that ensure operators are proficient in the safe and efficient use of heavy equipment. This role involves developing curriculum, conducting hands-on training sessions, and assessing operator performance to meet industry standards. Additionally, the instructor/developer stays updated with the latest equipment technologies and regulatory requirements to continuously improve training materials. Ultimately, this position aims to enhance operational safety, productivity, and compliance within the construction industry.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Developing Curriculum: Create and update lesson plans and instructional materials for heavy equipment operation courses. (30%)
- Hands-On Training: Deliver both classroom and hands-on practical instruction on operating various heavy machinery covering both theory and practical operation. Provide operating techniques to optimize machine efficiency, aiming to lower the ownership and operating costs of Komatsu equipment. (30%)
- Assessments: Conduct both practical and theoretical assessments to evaluate students' skills and knowledge. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance utilizing computer software. (20%)
- Safety Instruction: Ensure students understand and adhere to safety regulations and operating procedures. (10%)
- Industry Updates: Stay informed about industry trends, technology advancements, and safety standards to keep the curriculum relevant. (10%)
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in education or technology is preferred but not required. Direct relevant industry experience will be accepted in lieu of education.
- Experience:
- Must have at least 5 years of construction equipment operating experience in a grading or civil construction environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in developing/conducting technical training programs preferably within mining applications, is considered a plus.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey technical information and foster a collaborative learning environment. Ability to provide detailed reports and feedback to service engineers and the manufacturing plants regarding any relevant machine issues from customers. Ability to collaborate with internal team and Komatsu customers to schedule courses, resources, and equipment to accommodate the training courses.
- Certifications: Industry certifications documenting operation skills from a recognized certifying board are preferred.
- Travel: <40% domestic and internation travel.

- Have a basic knowledge of Komatsu CE excavator and dozer features and functions.
- Have a basic knowledge of Komatsu Intelligent Machine Control (IMC) system operation and functions.
Be able to conduct a machine specific walkaround in accordance with the OMM and Sales Brochure
