Job Purpose

As an Autonomous Haulage Technical Specialist, you will support and maintain the Komatsu FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System, one of the world’s leading autonomous mining technologies. Working directly at mine sites, you will help ensure the reliable operation of autonomous haul trucks and supporting systems that enable safer and more efficient mining operations.

This role combines field technology support, industrial networking, and systems troubleshooting in a dynamic mining environment. You will work closely with mine operations teams, engineers, and global support teams to maintain system performance and resolve complex technical issues.

This role offers the opportunity for hands-on experience supporting autonomous haul trucks and the technology that powers modern autonomous mining operations.

Work Environment & Travel Requirements

  • Work is performed at both active mine sites and regional offices, supporting autonomous haul truck operations onsite and remotely
  • Combination of control room, field, and network infrastructure work
  • Exposure to heavy equipment, industrial noise, dust, and variable weather conditions
  • Typical schedule includes 12-hour shifts
  • Work may occur in remote and physically demanding environments including extreme weather conditions with domestic travel approximately 25%

Key Responsibilities

Each day will present you with new challenges and opportunities to test and grow your skills.  As an AHS Technical Specialist with Modular, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Deploy, configure, and support the Komatsu FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS)
  • Install and maintain mobile computing systems used in autonomous haul trucks
  • Install and troubleshoot wired and wireless network infrastructure, including industrial wireless mesh networks
  • Monitor system performance to ensure uptime and compliance with customer service level agreements
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues affecting autonomous operations
  • Analyze system logs and operational data to support troubleshooting and performance optimization
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based field computing systems
  • Collaborate with mine operations teams to resolve operational technology issues
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, system records, and support procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent technical training and hands-on experience
  • 1+ years of experience supporting technical systems in industrial, mining, or field environments
  • Foundational knowledge of networking concepts (wired and wireless infrastructure)
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and software systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced operational environments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting autonomous systems, robotics, fleet management, or industrial automation
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems
  • Experience with wireless mesh networking technologies (Cisco or similar)
  • Familiarity with SQL/MySQL databases or scripting
  • Experience working in mining operations or heavy industrial environments
