This position will work with our GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH company located in Gelsenkirchen, Germany,  that produces specialized equipment for underground mining. Founded in 1964, GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH is an established supplier of heavy underground equipment worldwide.

Job Overview

Located in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, the Engineering Manager, Hard Rock, Germany position is an exciting opportunity to lead a group of design engineers in the development of underground mining equipment for use by our global mining customers.  The position provides for ongoing technical engagement in a global company working with engineering experts while coaching, mentoring and developing a team of engineers in the development of new technologies and solutions for the mining industry.

The role is responsible for overseeing a team of 15+ mechanical, electrical, controls design engineers, ensuring the achievement of design quality, cost, and innovation objectives. This position will collaborate with product management to develop technical scopes and options, and ensure all technical drawings and specifications meet industry and company standards. The role acts as the key contact for technical information and engineering design, providing status updates and presentations to senior management. This position will support sales, product management, and aftermarket with proposal designs and technical details, and assist global factory service teams in resolving product design field issues. The role is responsible for visiting customer sites to enhance product application knowledge and support service with product issues.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule and manage design projects as required to support new product development initiatives and production orders (sold equipment).
  • Manage technical specifications for assigned product line or system.
  • Support and execute product development of assigned product line or systems.
  • Prepare proposal drawings and cost estimates as required to support sales.
  • Provide technical support to factory service department to resolve design issues.
  • Complete design work as required.
  • Review work of design team members to ensure design objectives are met.
  • Visit customer sites to support factory service and sales, product trails and to improve product application knowledge.
  • Coach, mentor and lead engineering design team to develop their execution abilities and knowledge of the company and products for successful career development.
  • Manage engineering department budget related to expense and projects in collaboration with engineering project management and new product development teams.
  • Ensure all work is carried out with intent of making products safer for the customer.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • University bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent;
  • 8 or more years of experience with full mobile heavy equipment or machinery design including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems.
  • 2 or more years of experience leading a team.
  • Exposure to mining environment and customers preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience with formal new product development gated processes, project management methodologies and systems.
  • Familiar with ISO standard requirements and other country specific safety regulations as required.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to work effectively within tight deadlines and budget.
  • Good understanding of heavy manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent Understanding of Bill of Materials and MRP systems.
  • Fully competent with CAD design.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written.
  • Valid passport with ability to travel globally.
