Job Overview
The Deburrer-Grinder role sets up and operates a disc or uses a pedestal a portable power grinder to prepare castings, forgings and small weldments. Forms relief on heat treated gears and pinion teeth using tooth grinding machine, pneumatic grinder, and sander.
Shift: 3rd Sunday-Thursday
Key Job Responsibilities
- Receives work assignment and pouch; checks for required operations; refers to simple drawing to determine requirements.
- Picks up part and presses against rotating grinding wheel of disc or pedestal grinder to obtain a smooth and even face or specified dimension when required, using jigs or fixtures when available.
- Uses portable power grinder with appropriate grinding or buffing wheel to smooth difficult to reach interior and exterior surfaces; deburrs files and wire brushes parts as needed.
- Visually inspects pieces for improper grinding, poor material, etc.; set defective pieces aside and notifies inspector or supervisor of any irregularities; may count, sort, mark and load material using crane or hoist as needed.
- Checks routing cards, makes out part lot pouches when necessary and arranges to have material move in and out of department as required; requisitions supplies from tool crib.
- When required, uses forktruck or small grinding truck to facilitate grinding duties.
- Grinds using portable pneumatic grinder to form chamfer or radius on edges of gear and pinion teeth.
- Performs liberal tolerance grinding operations on a wide variety of ferrous and nonferrous castings and other parts such as hooks, sheaves, sprockets; bevel gears, clutch drums, shipper shafts, collector shoes, cases, grids, etc.
- Dresses or changes grinding wheel as required.
- Lubricates and cleans machine as needed, assists with repair of own machine when required.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including equipment, and performs all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements

Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, grinders, and various hand tools.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, process sheets.

Strong attention to detail.
