Job Overview

We are seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to support software and hardware projects for Shovel Automation Engineering technologies. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical troubleshooting skills and provide hands-on assistance with installations and equipment issues. This role requires expertise in engineering and optimization, along with a willingness to travel for commissioning and support. The candidate should be a collaborative team player, capable of clearly communicating technical issues and contributing to problem prevention and resolution. The ability to integrate software and hardware using knowledge of equipment operation theory to achieve optimal performance is key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support for software and hardware installations, addressing any equipment issues that arise.

  • Collaborate with team members to resolve technical challenges and optimize system performance.

  • Integrate various off-the-shelf hardware components into existing hardware and software architectures.

  • Conduct, generate, and document software functional tests.

  • Offer support for existing product lines through design activities and modifications of hardware and software in production.

  • Communicate technical information effectively through presentations, reports, and technical correspondence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.

  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency and a passion for success.

  • Experience in providing technical support to manufacturing and field engineers and technicians.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in System Integration and/or Industrial Automation.

  • Proficiency with NI hardware and LabVIEW software development for the cRIO platform.

  • Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and diagnosing faults in PLC-based control systems.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting, forcing, monitoring, and modifying remote I/O systems.

  • Background in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting machine data from the field.

  • Knowledge of various industrial communication protocols, including RS232/422/485, TCP/IP, UDP, CANOpen, J1939, Profibus, and Profinet.

  • Familiarity with industrial networking, such as managed/unmanaged switches, VPN, NAT, and routing.

Travel Requirements

  • Primary location: Milwaukee South Harbor Office.
  • Up to 35% travel required, with some trips lasting up to three weeks for product installation, support, testing, and observation to customer sites (primarily mines).
  • Travel includes commissioning new products and providing on-site support to ensure successful implementation.
