Job Overview

The Product Manager oversees the assigned portion of Blasthole Drills portfolio, managing the machines options & pricing, development plans, and new product introduction initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Drive new product development for Blasthole Drills, with heavy participation in the programs and ownership of the initiation and definition of new systems. 
  • Work with the development team to develop feature backlogs and product documentation such as user stories, use cases, logic flows and functional specifications.
  • Support sales and production introductions for assigned portion of Blasthole Drills portfolio across Komatsu sales and dealer network
  • Guide product management activity for assigned portion of portfolio including product positioning, product launches, technical sales support presentations and dealer sales training
  • Develop and maintain product strategy and roadmap for assigned portion of portfolio
  • Understand and communicate market dynamics for Blasthole Drills through market research and relationships with customers, third parties and region sales & service personnel.
  • Coordinate product management responsibilities with Application Engineering team responsibilities as needed
  • Develop and maintain strategic product plan, including market requirements, competitive landscape, gaps, product positioning, lifecycle, pricing, operations footprint and product support plan
  • Oversee current product offering through revision of machine pricing and configurations on the master price list with Commercial Management.  Evaluate requests from the field and participate in project definition meetings to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Translate VOB/VOC into ideas for new features or systems and develop supporting business documentation (Business plans, Functional Specifications, etc.) to support launch of NPD projects
  • Conduct VOC/VOB as required in support of understanding market, customer needs both current and future
  • Coordinate closely with Drill Program Manager around NPD process and required support from Product Management team
  • Work with dealers and customers to support Pilot machine/design trials.  Act as conduit between factory and dealers as it pertains to NPD projects.
  • Visit customers and distributors to present products, build relationships and understand applications, requirements and market.  Host factory visits from customers.
  • Create marketing materials for products with Marketing Communications, including presentations, competitive comparisons, animations, videos, literature and promotional materials.
  • Perform research on industry conditions, product performance and competitive activity. 
  • Build and leverage relationships with customers, Region sales & service personnel, and other suppliers in the industry to achieve the level of expertise needed to properly position our products. 
  • Prepare technical presentations and present at industry conferences.

Additional Information

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Marketing or related field is required. 
  • 5-7 years’ experience in product development, product marketing, engineering, or other technical equipment roles
  • Experience with global mining industry
  • Experience with Blasthole Drills highly preferred
  • Must have excellent communication and public speaking skills with an ability to demonstrate confidence in material knowledge.
  • Technical aptitude and experience with market analysis, strategic planning, and equipment sales
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
