Job Overview
The Principal Engineer- Reliability Provides representation and support as the reliability and test engineering (RTE) subject matter expert (SME) on product reliability review boards (PRRB) and product issue resolution (PIR) teams for assigned Komatsu Mining products
Key Job Responsibilities
- Leads cross-functional teams for PIR projects and activities, including root cause analysis (RCA) using appropriate techniques such as FTA, 5-Y, and Ishikawa (fishbone) Diagrams.
- Leads and/or performs reliability analyses on field failure data involving Komatsu Mining components and systems.
- Leads and/or performs design for reliability (DfR) activities including but not limited to: DFMEA’s, Reliability Modeling, Risk Assessments (RA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and reliability growth analysis (RGA) for assigned New Product Development initiatives.
- Leads initiatives to develop and implement Design for Reliability procedures, processes, and tools used during NPD and PIR activities.
- Reviews and approves Reliability/Availability/Maintainability/Safety (RAMS) requirements for major NPD initiatives.
- Leads evaluation activities of RAMS verification and validation testing of components and systems including Hazard analysis (HAZOP) and test plan development for assigned NPD or PIR projects.
- Provides technical supervision of junior reliability engineers.
- Acts as an ambassador for the Reliability and Test Engineering department engaging stakeholders throughout Komatsu.
Qualifications/Requirements
- BS in Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
- Minimum 12 years’ experience in reliability, maintenance or other relevant engineering. Mining equipment experience is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) required, and P.E., highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Reliability analytical software tools such as ReliaSoft or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of the following reliability analyses and techniques:
- Weibull Analysis
- Reliability Growth Analysis (RGA) (Crow-AMMSA)
- Reliability Block Diagram (RBD)
- Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Analysis
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Simulation and Analysis
- Sufficient mechanical aptitude to install and troubleshoot data acquisition (DAQ) systems and sensors on Komatsu products for field testing.
- Position may involve domestic and international travel (up to 25%).
