How you will help us create value together:

As a Manufacturing Engineer – Large Machining Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Manufacturing Engineering/Programming team.  The Manufacturing Engineering team works with a variety of departments and develops the Manufacturing operations to setup and machine a variety of large structures for Electric Mining Shovels.  Activities will include working with Manufacturing Engineers on cost savings and process improvement projects, building of tools and tool lists associated with programs for Tool Data Management, and developing setups, work instructions, and process sheets with the Programmer.

This onsite position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee’s Harbor District. The target start date for this role is Summer 2025 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2025 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.

Key Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Operators on cost savings and process improvement projects for CNC Gantry Mills
  • Catalog fixturing for Solid Models
  • Create 3D modeling of Gantry Mill Tool Changer Pocket
  • Develop and update setup and table Work Instructions
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering with TDM (Tool Data Management) for Crowd Cover and Saddle Block Tooling

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related major from an accredited college or university
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or master’s level student in good academic standing
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team towards a goal
  • Excellent organization and personal time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess effective problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to be creative and resourceful when needed
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous classroom and/or work experience in SolidWorks (CAD)
  • Previous classroom and/or work experience in one or more of the following areas of Programming Software is a bonus:  MasterCAM, CAMWorks, and so on
  • Interest in or aptitude to learn about careers in the heavy equipment industry
  • Hands-on machining experience is beneficial
