Job Overview
The Engineering Manager - Mechanical will manage and provide direction to a staff of experienced Mechanical Engineers engaged in the design, simulation, analysis and technical support of Surface Mining Products.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of the Engineering Team including tool development and documentation of Engineering Best Practices.
- Improve operating efficiency by ensuring accurate and timely resource allocation.
- Provide leadership for daily and long-term challenges. Mentor and develop staff, Managers and Team Leaders in Mechanical Engineering areas including Structures, Drivetrain and all mechanical components and systems.
- Responsible for ensuring high integrity in Engineering and providing proper oversight for critical business decisions. Ensure long term growth and challenges are identified and addressed.
- Remain current with technologies, including looking outside of the organization for new tools and processes. Review legacy processes and update to stay current with technology.
- Responsible as Mechanical Engineering Representative to all levels of management and customers. Encourage collaboration and consistency among Mechanical Design Approaches used across multiple product lines, Technical Center locations, and all functional areas including Manufacturing, Product Management, Service, Product Support, Planning and Purchasing.
- Review all mechanical related standards and unique new part Engineering Release proposals.
- Attend current product meetings to be aware of field mechanical related issues, report on resolution progress and identify areas simulation or technical reviews will improve results.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 15+ years’ experience with Mechanical and/or Structural Engineering of heavy equipment from a design, manufacturing and/or field support perspective. MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Management preferred. Licensed Professional Engineer is a plus.
- 7+ years’ experience in the management of engineering or technical professionals.
- Management experience with Simulation & Analysis Engineers and personal experience with simulation, machine controls, data acquisition, or project management preferred.
- Excellent communicator across levels and departments of the organization including executive communication, and a team player with strong leadership skills.
- Ability to understand specialized engineering terms and explain engineering principals in common terms. Excellent computer, verbal, presentation, and written skills.
- Positive decision-making skills that support the overall objectives of the department and company.
- Flexibility on travel, including both international and domestic, based on needs and overall company objectives.
- Personal Stature and Reputation to ensure ready acceptance within the company and to create a favorable representation of the company to customers and external stakeholders.
