The Director, Marketing Communications for the Global Mining division at Komatsu is responsible for overseeing and directing all marketing and communications strategies for the mining OEMs and OTMs at a global level, playing a pivotal role in ensuring consistent and effective representation of products, services and solutions through dealers and distributors, globally. This individual can see the big picture and grasp nuances around our businesses, markets and solutions, and share them in an articulate way giving strategic direction to their team of marketing specialists, communicators, creative team and digital experts, as well as managing by influence across marketing peers from business units, dealers and regions, to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach bringin to life marketing and communications plans. He or She will also set the strategic direction for the for engaging with the go-to-market teams, defining the set of tools and resources they need to achieve the business goals. Demonstrating a blend between strategic thinking creative vision and analytical skills, this leader is agile and able to quickly adjust strategies for optimized results. 

Job Overview

•    Responsible for developing the complete high level mining messaging and positioning, bringing together all products, services and solutions for Komatsu mining offerings, working with each business unit marketing leads to bring their plans together and set marketing and communications strategies that support business goals. 

•    Oversees and provides strategic guidance to the development of marketing and communications strategies in support of achieving business goals for all Komatsu mining OEMs and OTMs, primarily based in North America, but sold globally. Partners with business unit marketing leads to understand their business strategies and assist on bringing innovative and strategic approaches for marketing and promotions that drives differentiation in the marketplace, while supporting the Komatsu brand promise. 

•    Supports facilities and factories with customer events, customer experience centers, merchandise sourcing and sales and any other customer experience related need. 

•    Assists business units marketing teams for products’ and solutions’ launches and introductions/updates to market, overseeing the strategic roll-out every step of the process from internal employee audience, through distribution channels and finally to the customer audience. Provides strategic guidance to the go-to-market strategy, marketing plan and deliverables to be created for each specific launch, ensures it is innovative, differentiated and properly measured, so that business objectives are achieved.  

•    Assists business unit marketing leads with the development and creation of creative content and sales enablement tools for our products, solutions and markets from a creative, content and strategic positioning perspective, ensuring the creative team resources are fully aligned and available to fulfill the needs. Ensures these tools are aligned with marketing strategies previously agreed upon and are relevant for the audiences and properly rolled-out. Fosters the continuous release of fresh tools and content to our front-line teams to be successful in turning leads into sales. Follows the creative guidelines set by the global creative team. 

•    Manages the dedicated creative team for the mining groups, ensuring capacity and resources are aligned and available. Oversee agencies of record work and relatioships. Oversees the photo and video shoot processes, ensuring assets are developed according to standards and support business objectives for the campaigns. 

•    Drives dealer and distributor engagement, ensuring they have the right tools and resources to represent the mining solutions accordingly. Acts as the main liaison between business units marketing teams and distributor / dealers marketing teams to ensure coordination and consistency amongst all mining solutions marketing practices. 

•    Oversees and supports the concepting and execution of mining solutions marketing campaigns, collaborating with other teams (like the business units, Digital office, the regional teams, the global MarComm and other business teams) to feed the content and channel strategies such as website, social media, advertising, trade shows and events. Informs budget management for strategy and execution of global, regional and local initiatives such as advertising and sponsorship programs. 

•    Leads and oversees team and resources responsible for corporate and internal communications strategies and activities within the Global Mining groups, collaborating with global team and agencies of record to address PR, crisis and corporate public activities. Partners with executive leadership team to ensure strategic messages are shared appropriately to employees. Supports company’s participation and presence in national and regional organizations and associations, such as NMA. 

•    Active member of the Global Brand Steering Committee, representing the mining OEMs and OTMs, providing strategic input in the Komatsu global brand team efforts/taskforces as it relates to developing, updating and communicating updates related to topics like brand architecture, product branding and nomenclature, strategic branding schemes, logos and brand names creation, and topics alike. Ensures the business positioning aspect is taken into consideration and helps develop branding proposals for the different segments and innovations of Komatsu.
•    Leads and manages the marketing communications team, comprised of marketing specialists, communications experts, creative and digital experts, setting objectives and ensuring cohesion and efficiency in their work. Partners with peers from other business units, who are matrixed reporting to this role, and ensures activities align with global team expectations.

•    Responsible for developing and owning the central mining marketing budget, and informing the mining business units marketing budget for all marketing and communications activities.

Key Job Responsibilities
•    Oversees, reviews, and approves marketing strategies and plans, coaching marketing managers, building consensus and approvals from the business units and ensuring the team understands the input well for an efficient turnaround of deliverables. 
•    Brings together messages from individual business unit into a global, central and cohesive mining story. Support regional dealers and distributors in telling their localized story.
•    Oversees the development of sales enablement tools, content, and other materials for Komatsu sales teams and distributors, providing strategic guidance to team members.
•    Strategizes marketing campaigns that will support business objectives, assisting business units with content development, digital marketing, advertising and events.
•    Guides the creative team and agencies to produce content that will support the marketing and communications plans and strategies, on brand and according to the guidelines set by the global creative team.
•    Develops visionary plans for Komatsu to stand out from the competition in marketing its products and solutions. Works with business partners for input, collaboration and consensus building.
•    Joins regular global brand team meetings, providing strategic input, advocating for the mining OEMs and OTMs and implementing global decisions locally.  
•    Manage the priorities and activities, providing guidance and support for the marketing managers and project managers who partner on a daily basis with business functions and distributors.
•    Meets with executive leadership team to ensure understanding of corporate and team strategies, helping to cascade information to the employees driving engagement and retention. Provides direction to communications specialists and partners with agencies of record to support any external comms and PR initiatives in the region.
•    Attends customer meetings, when possible. Attends conferences and seminars, industry and marketing-related trade shows. Oversees regional and local events execution.
•    Works with business leaders to define priorities for marketing and enables the definition of a budget plan to support yearly activities. Plans and executes budgetary control of marketing strategies funded by the business units as appropriate, and make decisions with the core Marcomm yearly budget. 
•    Determines how to measure and track ROI, refining strategy based on findings.
•    Collaborates and interfaces with global marketing communications team for any specific resource and support needed around major trade shows, merchandise strategies, higher level marketing campaigns, etc. 
•    Provide support to team members to ensure effective accomplishments of deliverables, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth. 
•    Lead and develop a high performing team through coaching, mentoring, goal-setting, career pathing, training, and development. Monitor team time and engagement to ensure work-life balance and appropriate resourcing for high and low demand times.


•    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or Journalism required. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Communications preferred.  
•    15+ years applicable experience focused on marketing, communications, product management, sales or solutions
•    Exceptional writing ability, especially a propensity to translate technical content and product info into useful materials for non-technical audiences 
•    Displays knowledge in relation to the product or service being marketed to the public, or demonstrates capabilities of learning quickly about it.
•    Ability to take complex ideas and translate them into communications that can be easily understood by audiences at all levels.
•    Ability to manage people and motivate a team to achieve goals.
•    Understands customer engagement strategy development and how consumers respond to various forms of media and engagements.  
•    Possesses strong communication, relationship building, and negotiation skills.  Experience working with personnel in leadership roles (internal and external to the organization). 
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced, short deadline environment and adapt to change; Can meet demands and timelines without sacrificing quality; works well under stress.
•    Must have the ability to effectively influence, mentor, and educate both internal and external stakeholders in a variety of cultures
