Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Metallurgist to join our Manufacturing Engineering department at Komatsu Longview Operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metallurgy, materials science, and heat treatment processes. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and performance of our products through effective heat treatment and material testing.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Heat Treatment Processes: Develop, monitor, and optimize heat treatment processes to enhance the mechanical properties and performance of metals and alloys.

    Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.

    Material Testing: Conduct metallurgical testing, including hardness testing, microstructure analysis, and mechanical property evaluation to validate heat treatment results.

    Failure Analysis: Investigate and analyze material failures to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

    Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve heat treatment processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

    Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to production teams, addressing any metallurgical issues that arise during the manufacturing process.

    Documentation: Maintain detailed records of heat treatment parameters, test results, and quality assurance activities.

    Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, and quality control teams to ensure seamless integration of metallurgical practices within the manufacturing process.

    Training: Train and mentor production staff on heat treatment processes and metallurgical principles.

    Leadership: ability to provide leadership to a technical staff is a plus

Qualifications/Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a metallurgical role, preferably in a manufacturing environment with a focus on heat treatment.

Technical Skills: Proficient in metallurgical testing techniques, heat treatment processes, and failure analysis methods. Familiarity with industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, and AMS.

Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and develop effective solutions.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.

Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Software Proficiency: Experience with metallurgical analysis software and tools. Knowledge of CAD software is an advantage.
