Job Overview
Instructor / Developers are responsible for developing and delivering training programs which support Komatsu product initiatives. Materials, courses and classes developed offer training opportunities for internal Komatsu personnel, distribution personnel, end user customers and Komatsu International subsidiaries. Ultimately, the objective is to offer high level product education for the purpose of supporting Komatsu equipment, thus improving customer confidence and product reliability. Delivery of courses, materials and classes are offered in numerous venues and locations.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Subject Matter Expert responsible for determining training needs, developing and creating training courses/materials for use by KAC instructors, KLTD/subsidiaries, distributor trainers and contract trainers, increasing the opportunity of training on Komatsu products, thus increasing customer satisfaction. Adheres to department standards, style guides, requirements and protocol.
- Conducts required training classes locally and abroad to support KAC internal, KLTD/subsidiaries, distributors and customer/end users promoting repeat sales. Work within Learning Management System to schedule resources, equipment, and class offerings to accommodate training courses/classes. Manages training class enrollments and communicates, assists, cooperates, collaborates with the distributor training managers, Komatsu teams and departments as required. Records training class outcomes in Learning Management System.
- Provides feedback to Service Engineers, KLTD and the manufacturing plants on machine issues to assure accurate information, methods and procedures concerning Komatsu equipment, thus reducing distributor and customer dissatisfaction. Reports recognized issues in the appropriate systems and provides additional documentation necessary.
- Develops and conducts specialized classes which allow for distributor personnel to quickly and effectively diagnose machine issues, increasing efficiencies and cost effective repairs. Teaching the most effective procedures for maintaining optimum machine efficiency, thus reducing owning and operating cost of Komatsu equipment. The objective is to increase customer satisfaction and credibility, resulting in increased sales.
- Assists with video production team to develop training videos. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for review of script and video content.
- Assists with development and implementation of the Career Development courses, Skill Paths and Instructor Programs. Development of on-line distance learning programs for posting to the Learning Management System.
- Validates troubleshooting, testing/adjusting methods and procedures as it pertains to course development. Information is passed on to service engineering and publication departments, insuring validated, accurate information is supplied. Provides subject matter expertise and assistance to the Service, Department, Product Marketing, Sales and Parts Marketing as needed.
- Travel as necessary to develop and conduct training for internal KAC personnel, distribution and customer / end users. Maintains personal qualifications/certifications required for the position and its responsibilities and stays current for best practice training methodologies for the heavy equipment industry.
- Additional responsibilities or modification of any major action as predicated by need or required by the department. Assists with special project/programs as assigned, providing support for the Training department and others in any manner required.
- Coordinates course / class details with the respective departments, distributors and customers; Training Coordinators, Distributor Coordinators and customer/end user.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma at a minimum, BS or BA degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of industry experience or equivalent experience in the areas of Adult Education, Training and/or Continuing Education.
- Previous training with College/Technical School programs and courses supportive of proficiency in mechanical aspects of construction/mining equipment preferred. High level of technical knowledge, competency, and aptitude on construction/mining equipment that includes but is not limited to repair experience/knowledge, with on-the-job training/experience with great emphasis on machine troubleshooting. High degree of industry knowledge relative to best practices with training development and delivery.
- Well versed in training curriculum design and development. Experienced with presentation, classroom and material preparation skills. Should be intimately familiar with Instructional design as well familiar with best practice teaching methods.
- Excellent computer and software skills as pertaining to business systems, training development and training delivery required. Proficient in the use of Power Point, Excel and Word. Preference of knowledge concerning media development software products utilized in course ware development. Capable of assimilating into or learning any software application needed to perform development and delivery of training programs
- High degree of motivation, creativity, innovation as well accept empowerment to ensure training classes are best practice, productive and training results are recognized as a “value add” to the participants and to their customers.
- Excellent classroom presentation skills, demonstrating outstanding classroom and shop demonstration/instruction technique.
- Ability to understand and support company Training strategy.
- Ability to think outside of the box, challenge the status quo and encourage continuous improvement with all training classes.
