Job Overview

The Senior FEA Engineer is a critical Technical Role for the Komatsu Organization and will be based at our Milwaukee, WI Manufacturing Facility.  This Role is crucial to the production of quality, reliable Mining Equipment Machines and Parts.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) in the analysis of mechanical components, structures, and systems on various mining vehicles and subsystems by applying state-of-the-art, computer-based, static and dynamic modeling and analysis methods
  • Remain current in knowledge of structural analysis techniques and tools, including both solid modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) software in order to produce timely and accurate results
  • Participate in the development of new and advanced analytical methods and techniques utilizing state-of-the-art technology
  • Work with other analytical modeling and simulation teams to help find the most accurate solution
  • Maintain a working knowledge of strain gage and load/pressure transducer applications, for the purpose of correlating with analysis results
  • Maintain open communications with all internal and external customers and suppliers, providing technical guidance and support across multiple product lines
  • Assume project responsibility on analyses by providing planning, technical guidance, and coordination with both inside and outside functions
  • Promote an open culture, allowing for the free exchange of ideas, collaborate with Komatsu Technical Centers in the area of structural analysis
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports documenting analyses where required
  • Mentor and/or oversee other personnel or contractors
  • Minor travel as appropriate, primarily to Suppliers, Komatsu Tech Centers, and Customer Sites

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Technology, Mathematics, or related discipline. Advanced Degree preferred.  8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Background in mechanical engineering fundamentals with demonstrated competency in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, including Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Strain Gage Theory and Application, Fundamentals of Fatigue, etc.
  • Utilization of FEA Software and Techniques desired with NASTRAN and/or ANSYS experience preferred.
  • Experience in developing and analyzing machine system level non-linear FEA simulation models.
  • Programming or Scripting Languages experience (Matlab, Fortran, VBA, etc.).
  • Prior CAD systems experience such as SolidWorks or Creo preferred to manipulate geometry for optional structural designs.
  • Knowledge of casting design, manufacturing methods, and heat treatment, casting solidification software simulation experience like Magmasoft or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and self-directed. Completion of tasks with minimal guidance.
