Job Overview

Komatsu is hiring for a Purchasing Manager at our Longview, Texas location.  We offer an excellent benefit package, bonus potential, annual merit review, relocation, and development opportunities.

• 2022 – $17M, 56,000 sf Administrative Building

Key Job Responsibilities

  • The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the purchasing activities for all production and after-market raw and component materials, service and administrative supplies, MRO/Capital Equipment, subcontracting and trade compliance to maintain efficient operations at the lowest total cost consistent with established quality standards and delivery requirements.
  • Review, update, develop and execute departmental policies and procedures at the Longview facility, as well as policies and procedures affecting Komatsu in its entirety.
  • Develop effective and measurable department and individual goals and objectives in line with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Execute and maintain mutually beneficial long-term supplier relationships developed by Strategic Sourcing.  Champion and support the Strategic Sourcing Process.
  • Promote performance excellence and professionalism within the Purchasing Department.
  • Utilize appropriate business systems by promoting their effective and efficient use while striving to further enhance and improve processes and activities.
  • Hire and continually evaluate departmental personnel to ensure that potential meets expectations and make adjustments accordingly
  • Provide Senior Management with current and concise information on supplier issues, opportunities or threats.
  • Support supplier negotiations as required by Strategic Sourcing. Lead and/participate in negotiations for Subcontracts, MRO and Capital Equipment.
  • Supervise Purchasing employees; Conduct employee performance reviews; Provide coaching, counseling and career development.
  • Keep up to date with current business developments, economic trends.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • The position requires broad and thorough understanding, knowledge and experience in the principles and practical application of purchasing, materials management, trade compliance, MRO/Capital Equipment, manufacturing, quality assurance, accounting and information systems. 
  • Must have the necessary leadership skills required to lead, motivate, and develop subordinates to obtain optimal results from a diverse group of professional individuals.
  • Must be highly organized and have the ability to develop short- and long-term plans to support company goals and objectives.
  • Must possess superior negotiating and persuasive skills to motivate and influence people, both within and outside of the organization.
  • Requires understanding of contracts and UCC/International laws and regulations.
  • B.S. Degree in Business Management/Business Administration or a minimum of 10 years purchasing or material management experience with a minimum 5 years experience as a purchasing or materials management supervisor. MBA considered a plus.
  • ISM or APICS certification is a plus
  • Ability to build consensus with the various interests inside and outside of the organization.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task and function in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
