Job Overview

We are currently looking to add an Intermediate Buyer to our Edmonton Office.


Reports to: Manager, Inventory and Logistics


Shift:  5 x 2, Monday to Friday


Location: Edmonton, Alberta


Relocation: This position does not offer relocation


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Establish, coordinate, and administer long-term national purchase agreements consistent with desired quality to meet specified requirement dates.
  • Identify purchasing trends and supplier reduction strategies.
  • Control costs through negotiations, market tests, make/buy proposals, design and/or process changes, and material substitutions
  • Develop standard costs based on market economic factors and projected price changes.
  • Administer Customs documentation for imports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regional legislation.
  • Prepare and analyze comprehensive RFQs.
  • Maintain supplier information records, material masters, and purchase orders.
  • Analyze and correct receiving issues, accounting invoices and freight costs variances.
  • Review broker and freight bills to ensure coding is correct and charges are valid.
  • Remain current in Komatsu and P&H product parts and purchased commodities.
  • Create, administer, and distribute inventory and department metrics reporting.
  • Develop and evaluate qualified supplier’s list; address and resolve performance issues.
  • Explore, investigate, and recommend cost improvement ideas.
  • Create part numbers, information records, material masters, and source lists in SAP.
  • Manage the National Service Group’s inventory to ensure customer requirements are met while optimizing inventory levels and increasing turns.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Komatsu’s health and safety, human resources, supply chain and accounting policies and procedures.


  • Possesses a Purchasing/Materials background with working knowledge of the assigned commodity.
  • 10 plus years purchasing experience or a combination of a 4-year Business Degree majoring in Supply Chain Management plus 5 years relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of SAP ERP is considered an asset.
  • Able to work as a part of a team, and independently.
  • Self-motivated and deadline driven.
  • Working towards a Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is a plus.
