Job Overview

The Merchandise Specialist is a key role for Komatsu that will take a leading role in South Harbor company store. They will help create the visitor experience by applying the Komatsu standards in branding, promotions and merchandise. This individual will also lead North America region as main point of contact for our primary vendor, including design approval, pricing and merchandise approvals.     

Key Job Responsibilities

Take a leading role in defining our corporate Komatsu company store and merchandise standard, which can be applied across facilities in North America. Align the corporate standard to dealers’ and distributors’ needs for both internal processes and customer-facing aspects, supporting sales and other merchandise and promotional needs
Internal processes: Responsible for overall management of South Harbor company store including ordering, inventory, sales and reporting
Customer-facing aspects: Responsible for South Harbor store layout and store design
Responsible for the strategic planning and execution of Komatsu’s merchandise planning, including merchandise designs, promotional items and branding items. Oversees e-store management including: vendor relations, product offerings, promotions, etc.
Work with members of marketing communications to develop design ideas and special ordering, promotions and communications that relate to merchandise, promotional give aways etc.
Develop and implement measurement plans for South Harbor store including invoicing, sales, percent profit margin, inventory by month, quarter and year
Develop and implement measurement plans for North America region including purchases, sales, percent profit margin by month, quarter and yearly. Measurement plans should also include breakdown of purchase type: Company stores, dealers, employees or customers (E-store) 
Maintain strong communications and relationships with merchandise vendor and all internal and external stakeholders to ensure success of merchandise and promotional programs
Manage South Harbor store during open hours and interact with customers, process transactions and operate POS system
Monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting for South Harbor store
Develop and maintain South Harbor store organization and cleanliness
Work with internal teams on any special orders, as needed, or if employee does not want to work directly with primary vendor partner 
Work with marketing communications teams to create an engagement plan for South Harbor store including graphics, signage and promotions
Maintain inventory in store management system, including ordering, intake, tagging and inventory levels
Develop internal and external communications process for North America region relating to merchandise and promotional item on quarterly basis
Main point of contact for North America regional vendor.
Work with main merchandise vendor to create and maintain online store look, UI/ UX, product offerings and promotions
In depth understanding of brand guidelines, including colors, logo placement and logo use including approval management of special orders for North American region
Responsible for branding elements such as promotional items, giveaways and gifts for North American region
Support merchandise needs of dealers and distributors. Assist in developing and maintaining their promotions and merchandise strategy to align with Komatsu standards

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in office administration or office management, with ambition to get business and marketing experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or similar required
  • 1-2 years experience in retail marketing or customer service, excellent organizational and writing skills, strong project management skills required
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint experience required
  • Experience managing budgets, invoicing, and negotiating pricing/contracts
  • Strategic thinking
