Grinder / Deburrer - 2nd Shift

Job Overview

The Grinder / Deburrer at Komatsu sets up and operates a disc or uses a pedestal, or a portable power grinder to prepare castings, forgings and weldments.     Forms relief on heat treated gears and pinion teeth using tooth grinding machine, pneumatic grinder, and sander.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Receives work assignment and pouch; checks for required operations; refers to simple drawing to determine requirements. Reviews computer dispatch list.
• Picks up part and presses against rotating grinding wheel of disc or pedestal grinder to obtain a smooth and even face or specified dimension when required, using jigs or fixtures when available.
• Uses portable power grinder with appropriate grinding or buffing wheel to smooth difficult to reach interior and exterior surfaces; deburrs, files and wire brushes parts as needed.
• Visually inspects pieces for improper grinding, poor material, etc.; sets defective pieces aside and notifies inspector or supervisor of any irregularities; may count, sort, mark and load material using crane or hoist as needed.
• Checks routing, makes out part lot pouches when necessary and arranges to have material moved in and out of department as required; obtains supplies from tool crib.
• When required, uses fork truck to facilitate grinding duties.
• Grinds using portable pneumatic grinder to form chamfer or radius on edges of gear and pinion teeth. Feathers Acme threads.
• Operates blast and wash booth to clean parts.
• Performs liberal tolerance grinding operations on a wide variety of ferrous and nonferrous castings and other parts.
• Dresses or changes grinding wheel as required.
• Lubricates and cleans machine as needed, assists with repair of own machine when required.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including equipment, and performs all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established procedures.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Must be able to communicate well within a team structure. 
• Previous Grinding Operation experience is strongly preferred. (ie. - Disc grinder; pedestal grinder; portable power grinder; grinding wheels, etc.).
• Overhead Crane experience (floor operated overhead cranes and hoists) and Fork lift experience is also preferred.
• Various hand tool utilization is very useful. (ordinary hand tools, wire brush; hand broach, etc.).
• Prior Measurement tool experience is a preference. (gauges and other measuring tools.).
• Blueprint Reading is a plus.
• Available for work approximately 40 hours per week. 
• Ability to work 2nd Shift.

• May be asked to work weekends.  Ability to work weekends as necessary.
